When the line between virtue and sin is blurred, how do you know if you’ve crossed it?
Twenty-seven-year-old Adira Hayes never planned on spending her summer collecting rainwater or hunting down cans of ravioli, but then again, she never planned on the world ending either.
An infectious hysteria has ravaged the city of Albuquerque, turning people’s deepest sins—rage, greed, lust—into something uncontrollable, something deadly. After witnessing her parents’ death, Adira is left to keep her twelve-year-old brother, Asher, alive in a world that’s all but fallen. Desperate to keep her brother fed, Adira ventures out into a city she no longer recognizes and discovers that, in this newly broken world, life no longer ends at death.
On the hunt for supplies and answers, she crosses paths with Haevyn, a blade-wielding stranger who disappears in a gust of wind. After another chance encounter, Adira learns that her world isn’t the only one in danger. Haevyn’s home—an in-between realm he calls Abeyance—is under attack, its citizens vanishing in the night.
In need of her help—and soul—Haevyn promises Asher’s safety in return for a simple favor: help seal the gates of hell by breaking into heaven. Seeing no other option, Adira agrees to help and finds herself caught between the responsibility of freeing their worlds and the temptation she feels for Haevyn.
With hell running free and heaven turning a blind eye, Adira must learn to face her inner sins or risk the world falling to its own.
Adira's quest to save the world and battle her sins continues.
